Privacy policy
Last updated: 9 October 2026
General information only, not advice. ClearDA kits and the screener give general information drawn from official sources. They are not legal, planning, building, engineering or financial advice, and they are not a council's or building certifier's decision. Rules change, and council requirements, planning scheme overlays (such as flood, bushfire or heritage overlays) and site conditions vary from property to property. Each kit shows the date its sources were last checked, and doesn't cover changes after that date. Before you act, always confirm with your local council, a building certifier or another QBCC-licensed or suitably qualified professional, and use a licensed tradesperson where the law requires one.
1. Who we are
ClearDA is a business name of Christopher Leigh Inglis, a sole trader (ABN 28 500 456 852), Windsor QLD 4030. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean Christopher Leigh Inglis, trading as ClearDA. Contact: info@clearda.com.au.
2. The law that applies
The Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) set rules for how many organisations collect, use, store and disclose personal information. As a small business, we may be exempt from the Privacy Act (section 6D). We still choose to handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles, and this policy explains how.
3. The screener: your answers stay in your browser
- You can use the screener and read your summary without telling us who you are.
- The screener runs in your web browser. Your job, council and answers are kept in your browser's history for that tab, so Back, Forward and reload work.
- Your answers aren't sent to us and aren't stored on our servers. If you buy a kit, we only send Stripe which kit you chose (for example "deck"), not your answers. The screener only downloads its job and council information from our website.
- The screener doesn't use cookies or local storage. Clearing your browsing history removes your answers.
- Printing or saving your summary as a PDF happens on your own device.
4. Website hosting
Like any website, our host receives standard technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. It uses this to deliver and protect the site. Our site is hosted on Cloudflare. Cloudflare keeps short-term technical logs to deliver and protect the site.
5. Analytics and cookies
We don't use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, and our own pages don't set cookies. Stripe's checkout page (on Stripe's site) and our host may use cookies or similar technology that are needed for security and fraud prevention. If we ever add analytics, we'll update this policy first.
6. Payments
- Payments are handled by Stripe. When you buy a kit you enter your details on Stripe's checkout page, not ours.
- Stripe collects the details it needs to process the payment, such as your name, email address, card details and billing details. We don't see or store your full card number.
- From Stripe we receive the payment status, the amount, the kit you bought, the email address and name you gave at checkout, your billing country or postcode if Stripe collects it, the card brand and last four digits (never the full number), your acceptance of our terms, and your optional "How did you hear about us?" answer. We use this to give you your kit, send your receipt, deal with refunds and keep the records the law needs, including tax records.
- "How did you hear about us?" (optional). Stripe's checkout page has an optional dropdown question (Google search, Google ad, YouTube, Reddit, forum or Facebook group, flyer or noticeboard, certifier or surveyor, friend, other). There's no free-text box, and you can skip it. Your answer is stored only in Stripe with the payment record, for as long as we keep payment records (see section 11). We don't keep a separate copy. We look at answers only in total, to see which channels work, and we never use them to market to you.
- Stripe handles your information under its own privacy policy: stripe.com/au/privacy.
7. Getting your downloads again
If you use our "Get my downloads again" page, we ask for the email address you used at checkout and the receipt number from your Stripe receipt. We use them only to find your paid order and show your download links again. If you don't give both, we can't find your order on the page, but you can email info@clearda.com.au instead.
Each time you ask, we send your email address to Stripe, which already holds it from your purchase, to look up your paid orders from the last 30 days, and we check the receipt number against what Stripe sends back. We don't save what you enter: it isn't kept in a database, a file, a cookie or your browser's storage, and we don't log it. Stripe keeps its own records of our lookups, which can include your email address, under Stripe's privacy policy.
To stop misuse, our website briefly holds your IP address and a scrambled (hashed) form of your email address in temporary memory, to count how many times you've tried. This is never written anywhere, and it's deleted within 15 minutes. Our host, Cloudflare, may also keep its standard technical logs of the request, such as your IP address, the page and the time (see section 4).
Stripe and Cloudflare may handle this information outside Australia, including in the United States (see section 8).
8. Information sent overseas
Our payment provider (Stripe) and our website host (Cloudflare) may store or process your information outside Australia, including in the United States and other countries where they or their service providers operate. Both are large international providers with their own security and privacy commitments: see stripe.com/au/privacy and cloudflare.com/privacypolicy. We only use providers we're satisfied handle personal information securely.
9. How we use and share it
We use personal information only to provide the kit you bought, answer your questions, handle refunds and meet legal obligations. We don't sell it. We share it only with the service providers who help us run ClearDA (Stripe for payments and our website host, Cloudflare), or where the law requires it.
If you give us your phone number, for example in an email asking for a call, we use it only to call you back about your question. We keep a short written note of what we discussed, with your email. We don't use your number for marketing and we don't share it. Both are kept for as long as we keep emails (see section 11).
10. Emails
We only email you about your purchase or in reply to you, for example a receipt, a refund or an answer to your question. We don't send marketing or promotional emails, and we don't add you to any mailing list.
11. Keeping it safe, and for how long
We take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold, including using secure providers and limiting access to Christopher Inglis.
- Payment and sales records: 7 years from the purchase. Tax law requires at least 5 years, and 7 years also covers the period in which a claim about a purchase could be made. We then delete or de-identify them. If a complaint or claim about a purchase is still open after that, we keep the related records until it's resolved.
- Emails you send us: 2 years after our last contact with you. If an email or call note relates to a purchase, refund, complaint or dispute, we keep it with that purchase record instead.
- Download links stop working 30 days after purchase.
- Stripe and Cloudflare also keep records under their own policies and legal obligations.
- If a data breach involving your information is likely to cause you serious harm, we'll tell you as soon as we reasonably can.
12. Access, correction and complaints
You can ask to see or correct the personal information we hold about you, or make a privacy complaint, by emailing info@clearda.com.au. We'll reply within 30 days. We'll look into any complaint, tell you what we found and what we'll do. If the Privacy Act applies to us and you're not happy with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
13. Changes
We may update this policy. The current version is always on this page, with the date it was last updated.
